JAXPORT and Manson Construction Company provided a free Procurement Seminar for Small Businesses

The seminar was titled, “HOW TO PREPARE A RESPONSIVE PROPOSAL”!

On Tuesday, February 10, JAXPORT and Manson Construction Company provided a free Procurement Seminar for Small Businesses at the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal. The seminar titled, “HOW TO PREPARE A RESPONSIVE PROPOSAL”, started promptly at 9am when Louis Naranjo, Director of Procurement Services and Contracts for JAXPORT welcomed a diverse audience to this unique private/public seminar hosted jointly by Manson Construction Company and JAXPORT.

“This is a very rare opportunity for small businesses to get a bird’s eye view of what government agencies and prime contractors are looking for when evaluating responses to proposals,” stated W. Larry Williams, Founder – Chairman of FirstThursday’s, the pro-active advocacy, marketing and professional networking organization for Black and women owned businesses in Jacksonville and Seattle. “In my opinion, JAXPORT is becoming a leader among local government agencies in reaching out creatively to small businesses here in Duval County and beyond,” Williams added.

An enthusiastic Dr. John A. Newman, Vice Chairman, JAXPORT Board of Directors told the small businesses gathered that he was happy that JAXPORT was a partner in “this important seminar for small businesses.”

The Manson Construction Company team was led by Melinda Martirosian, ( In the photo at the Podium) Small Business Liaison Officer who traveled from Manson’s headquarters in Seattle, Washington for the opportunity to help train small businesses on “How To Prepare a Responsive Proposal”, when bidding for government contracts. Manson Construction Company was founded by Peter Manson in Seattle and is now an employee-owned company. The seminar covered a variety of subjects such as, Why This Class?, RFP, IFB, Proposal Requirements, project scopes, bid examples and much more.

According to Yetunde Oyewole, SEB Programs Coordinator for JAXPORT, ” This is the first time since I have been at JAXPORT that a company has volunteered to host a seminar like this one.” Oyewole also gave the audience information about Doing Business with JAXPORT, including an overview of JAXPORT’S Small & Emerging Business Program.

Joe B. Miller, Sr. Dir. Facilities Development Engineering and Construction, JAXPORT and Retta Rogers, Manager of Procurement Services and Contracts for Manson Construction provided overviews for JAXPORT and Manson’s Capital Projects Overview for the Fiscal Year 2015 respectively.

In addition to JAXPORT and Manson Construction Company, representatives from the City of Jacksonville, JEA, JTA, JAA, Duval County Public Schools and the SBA were there to share information about opportunities available through their small business and DBA programs.
